Then a contender on the Mexican version of The Voice, Alejandro Fuentes-Rosas, was also killed by a gunman. Now, Season 3 American Idol contestant John Stevens was hit by a van. Stevens is most known for his Frank Sinatra style vocals and young age. He competed on American Idol when he was only 16 years old.
Stevens was out jogging in Chelsea, Massachusetts, when he was struck by a vehicle. He was first treated at Massachusetts General Hospital before being removed to Buffalo, New York, where he’d be closer to his parents.
The American Idol alum ended up with a fractured skull, broken arm and right ear deafness, but otherwise is recuperating well.
A witness stated that the accident happened outside a crosswalk and that the van driver was not speeding. Police have opted not to pursue any charges against the driver.
Stevens posted the following message on his Facebook page thanking everyone for their kind thoughts:
Thank you to everyone who has been calling, texting and messaging. Early this week I was hit by a van while out for a run and suffered a fractured skull and dislocated and broken arm. Among other injuries and disorders I’m dealing with, it appears I will have some, if not total deafness in my right ear. The staff at Mass General were above and beyond anything I could’ve ever asked for. My parents have taken me back to buffalo for a couple weeks to heal and recover from the accident since I won’t be able to work. Thank you very much for all of the well wishes and prayers. It truly means a lot to me.
Here’s hoping the rest of his recovery goes smoothly.
