The 71-year-old rock star went to Buckingham Palace to receive the honor. He was joined by his wife, model Penny Lancaster, and two of their children, Alistair (10) and Aiden (5).
Prince William presented the knighthood, with Stewart kneeling on a stool while the Prince placed a sword on his shoulder.
Despite the seeming seriousness of the whole event, Sir Rod Stewart had his usual joviality. About meeting Prince William, he said, “We talked about music and he said, ‘It’s great that you’re still going,’ and I said, ‘I have to, I’ve got eight children!'”
He also added that he was excited, but the excitement wasn’t quite complete without his parents. “[Prince William] congratulated me on my long career, and I said how happy this made me,” Sir Rod Stewart stated. “I just wish my mum and dad had been here to see it.”
