Whitney Houston and her family took Nick Gordon in when he was just 12 years old, but years later he began having a romantic relationship with Bobbi Kristina. In early 2015, Bobbi Kristina Brown was found unresponsive in a bathtub inside her home in Atlanta. She remained in a coma in the hospital for six months before passing away in July of 2015.
The cause of death was determined to be drug intoxication and water immersion. She died under similar circumstances to her mother, who was also found in a bathtub and had heart disease and cocaine use attributed to her cause of death.
Ever since Bobbi Kristina passed, her father and other family members have accused Gordon of giving her a “toxic mixture” of drugs before placing her face down in the bath. Her estate had been demanding $40 million in damages due to wrongful death and they accused Gordon of assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Now, they’ve finally gotten some semblance of justice–a judge has awarded the family $36 million in damages. The judgment was entered in the civil suit after Gordon failed to show up in court.
A lawyer speaking on behalf of her family stated, “Bobbie suffered such horrific pain and degradation at the hands of Nick Gordon…[He was] the man she loved and trusted. No one should suffer the way she did and the judge sent a strong message in the award of punitive damages that this despicable behavior is inexcusable and will not be tolerated.”
Bobbi Kristina Brown’s family will also be pursuing criminal charges against Nick Gordon.
