By now you all know the story – One Direction (aka 1D) was discovered after entering the British version of The X Factor back in 2008. But what you might not know is that the band originally had entered the contest as individuals.
Following the now prophetic suggestion from guest judge (and former Pussycat Dolls lead singer Nicole Scherzinger) the five singers were joined together as a single band called One Direction.
Mentored by host Simon Cowell, they soon became one of the favorites to win the show. However, in what must seem like a remarkable twist in hindsight, the band finished in a distant third place.
Since signing with Cowell’s record label, the quintet has outsold all the modern boy bands in the UK and become the biggest boy band since Take That (the 90s British equivalent of the Backstreet Boys).
1D is back with their new album Four which has rocketed into the #1 slot for album sales. Expectations run high since 2013’s Midnight Memories was the biggest selling artist album of 2013 in the UK, which led to the sold out Where We Are world arena tour and millions in album and digital sales.
The first single off Four is called “She’s The One.” The video features an always hilarious Danny DaVito along with sumo wrestlers, chimpanzees wearing sunglasses and Maasai warriors dancing in the desert.
